Why Black?

YES! Black Ink Does Show! After receiving the first pressing, we were concerned over the choice of black rubber, thinking perhaps one would not be able to see black ink on it very well -- after all, since it is the most-used color of ink, that would be critical. But, as it turned out, the black ink glistens on the black rubber, and you can easily see how well the ink covers. For best viewing results, it helps to hold the stamp at a slight angle under your work light. AND, NO! Black Ink Doesn't Show! If you use Permanent Ink, Crafter's Ink, Indexers Ink -- it can't stain the stamp: it's black already!
Look how black rubber behaves with metallic inks! This photo illustrates how clearly metallic copper shows up over all the details in this stamp. It truly pops right out at you!! Using metallics, reds, and some earth tones on red rubber doesn't do that -- those colors just about disappear on red. All inks we've tried so far, clean off easily with normal tapping on a paper towel, followed by dipping in a sponge-lined tub with a 50:50 solution of water+window cleaner. Occasionally some tougher spots need a Kleenex/Cottonelle wipe.
AND, light inks show especially well. This photo shows Brilliance Jade just ever-so lightly tapped on to the black die. The ink itself is gorgeous and produces good coverage, but it's easy to see on the black stamp that not many areas are missed. BUT, THE #1 REASON THESE STAMPS ARE BLACK IS: . . . it's just damn classy!
