Beaded Heart

Selected details colored with American Crafts Ultimate Glitter Gel Pens in various jewel-tones.

Top petals painted with Dr. Ph. Martin's Iridescent Calligraphy Ink in Crystal Mint.

Center "quilting" inked in Winsor Newton's Gold Calligraphy Ink.

Beaded Heart

As to technique and products: Anne uses the Art Institute's glitter and glue on the reverse side of an acetate sheet.

She says, "Many people stamp the image they are working with directly on to acetate, but I find that does not work well for me as I am always smearing it."

Instead, Anne stamps the image on white paper, and then scans it into the computer. That way she has full control over the sizing and can make it whatever size she sees fit for the project.

The green shading on the paper was produced by cheating with the computer coming into play again.

Anne does all the glitter portions by hand, but she cites, "as I've been developing my technique, I found I needed a background that did not distract from the glitter part. So...using my "photo shop" program, I created background paper. "

The same affect, however, can be achieved with oil sticks or chalk.

Birds2001

Birds2001 is stamped on white laser paper with tinted pigment ink, then embossed with ultrafine copper powder and closely cut out with scissors. The birds are painted with Pearl White [Lumiere] and the border detail is filled in with The Ultimate Glitter Gel Pen [American Crafts], in black and teal. A square of teal glossy paper is adhered to black matboard, then attached to the back of the cutout for added thickness.

The background paper is teal linen cut to 8½"x8½", and is stamped in an overlapping and random pattern with Fronds_Lg [Floral Scapes] in graphite black pigment [Brilliance] and Fronds_Sm [Floral Scapes] in dragonfly black pigment [Cat's Eye].

Black matboard, 8"x8", is scored, in the center to the exact size of the square border of the main stamp then cut out with scissors. The remaining matboard is also scored and cut into four equal panels. Each outer panel is then stamped with the Tang Dynasty Writing [A Stamp In The Hand Co.], in white pigment ink and embossed half with ultrafine copper powder and half with Azurite Pearl Lustre powder. These are alternated for the inside and outside of each piece. The pieces are adhered to the edges of the teal background, leaving approximately ½" gap between each piece of matboard.

A piece of copper moire paper, 3¼x2", is adhered horizontally in the middle of the unstamped piece of matboard. Various coordinating colored papers are cut into thin strips, glued together and adhered to the back of the main stamp.

Finally, the Birds2001 stamp is adhered on top.

Stamp/Paper Artist: Janice Ellis

This beautiful 3D card made by Janice Ellis is actually 3-4 layers of the Birds2001 stamped, then carefully hand-cut and painstakingly layered to each other with thin foam glue dots. The workmanship is gorgeous, and as is often the case, this picture does not do it justice. The outer square edge is embossed in detail silver, as are the top layer of the birds wings. Each section was then hand colored with fabulous purple and turquoise inks.

The outer circle, not part of the stamp design, was designed to coordinate with the ink choices. This is so beautiful!

Carousel Dream [Stained Glass Spirit ]

This card is stamped with tinted embossing ink using the Carousel Dream image and is embossed with black detail powder.

Areas of detail are painted with Lumiere Pearl Emerald, and Pearl Blue; DecoArt Metallics in Crystal Green, Purple Pearl and Champagne Gold; as well as Ph. Martin's Crystal Mint. Spot areas are highlighted with DecoArt's Sparkles in real green and purple glitter.

The paper is copper moire, mounted to pearl glossy, mounted to faded turquoise card stock, adhered to an Intel "annual stockholders report" cover recycled and attached to metallic turquoise card.

Carousel Dream

FloraBelle

Stamp artist: Julianne Vaccaro

FloraBelle is a stamp image from the Stained Glass Spirit collection and is embossed with gold powder on white card stock.

The 14-year old artist who created this gift tag used gel markers in a variety of spring-time colors to highlight the unique curves of this image which was designed by her mother!

The image was loosely cutout and affixed to light lavender card and hole-punched for a ribbon to be used as a birthday gift tag.

Jungle Shield

[Stained Glass Spirit]

The Jungle Shield is featured here on both black linen cardstock and white linen cardstock.

Above and below: Stamp Jungle Shield using Platinum Cat's Eyes and let sit to dry. The linen card stock is absorbent enough to not need ink heat-setting. Color select areas of shield using a dotting action, rather than a stroking action to achieve better control over ink placement. Colors are "The Ultimate Glitter Gel Pen" by American Craft; leaf gold is Pen-Touch Calligrapher in gold. Glitter glue is by Crayola.

Jungle Shield -- Stained Glass Collection
SG-204 — $8.75

This white linen sample shows the Jungle Shield stamped with Green Tea [VersaColor] pigment ink and embossed with Emerald powder (StampaRosa). Calligraphy inks in bronze, violet, pearl blue and amethyst were first applied with a small paint brush in select areas. Then using "The Ultimate Glitter Gel Pen" in various colors, certain areas were dotted to accent the inks, which resulted in color transformation and blending. Crayola's Glitter Glue was used in the "gemstone" areas in the middle.
